DESIGN ENGINEERING IN THE MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY

Deksripsi Singkat

Technical drawings are drawings that are firm in nature, consisting of lines, symbols and writing that have certain standards that have been mutually agreed upon and become a means of visual communication between planners (architects) to convey ideas or proposed designs to executors in the field.

Deskripsi Lengkap

Design engineering

is very wide umbrella term which encompasses alot of roles of engineers in numerous fields. You can have mechanical design engineers, electrical designers, chemical designers etc. Generally , design engineering is synonymous with mechanical design engineering. A design engineer is basically who uses “engineering” to “design” products/ machines/systems/tools/equipment and any other physical thing. Its the amalgamation of Product design and Mechanical engineering. But since this is in itself is a huge responsibility of bringing a mechanical product to life. Design engineers may work in a generic roles or a specific role depending on the complexity of the project. There may be design engineers who are highly creative and work to generate new unique concepts. There may be domain expert design engineers who know the ins and outs of a specific system and can design an improvement . There may be design verification experts like simulation experts who are well versed in specific types of engineering analysis - CAE analysts. AL though this role maybe treated separately but if the CAE analysts take design decisions then they would be included as design engineers. So depending on the industry and product , the role and responsibilities of the design engineer might be different but the core idea of using design (creative aspect) and engineering analysis to realize products remains the same.

The general objectives of engineering drawings are:

1. To develop the ability to express ideas and describe objects by drawing
2. Interpret the norms and symbols used in technical drawings and in everyday life
3. To develop skills in lettering and hand drawing using traditional drawing tools
4. To read and understand simple drawings

Image Function

Drawings are a means of conveying meaning, especially for technical people. Therefore drawing is often also referred to as the language of Engineering. As a technical language, it is hoped that an image can convey information accurately and objectively. Technical drawings have several functions, namely:

Submission of Information
Drawings have the task of conveying the intentions of the designer appropriately to other parties, for example process planning, manufacture, inspection and assembly of products/components.
When we observe the process of making machine products/components, we always find pictures.

Preservation and Storage
Drawings are exact technical data. The technology of a company is condensed and collected on drawings. Therefore the drawings are not only preserved to supply product parts for repair, but the drawings are used as information material for new plans at a later date. This requires a way of storing, codifying the serial number of images and so on.

Pouring ideas and Development
New ideas for development are still abstract concepts that come to mind at first. The abstract concept is then embodied in the form of sketches, then the sketches are examined, evaluated repeatedly so that perfect new drawings are obtained.

Technical Drawing Standards
Technical drawing standards are a uniformity that has been mutually agreed upon with the aim of avoiding misunderstandings in technical communication. People involved in the technical drawing field need to know about standards. Countries that have made standards include:

  1. Japan (JIS)
  2. Dutch ( NEN )
  3. Germany ( DIN )
  4. Indonesian ( SII )
  5. International Standard ( ISO )

Drawing paper with its standard (size)

Various types of drawing paper used in accordance with the purpose of the image include:

  1. Drawing paper for layout. For layout drawings in pencil, plain white drawing paper, sketch paper or millimeter paper is used.
  2. Drawing paper for original images. The original drawing was drawn on tracing paper, because blueprints or contact prints were made directly from these drawings. Good quality paper is durable, moisture resistant, easy to draw with pencil/ink and easy to reprint.
Image film is used for precise images, can be stored for long periods of time and cannot expand or contract.
  3. Drawing paper has a standard length and width. In accordance with the ISO (International Standardization for Organization) and NNI (Nederland Normalisatie Instituet) systems, the size of drawing paper is determined as follows.
